The Details

Your Commitment:

  • Yoga every day for 35 days: attend class at Asha Yoga for at least 30 out of 35 days (five days of practice can be done away from the studio).
  • Practice pranayama (breathing techniques) 1 time a day for 5 minutes. Guidance on the technique of pranayama will be offered during yoga classes and at the weekly meetings
  • Practice meditation 2 times a day for 5 minutes each time. Guidance and lessons in meditation will be given during weekly meetings and in regular classes.
  • Attend weekly meetings at Asha Yoga (first meeting: Saturday, January 18th, regular meetings will be held weekly on Sunday afternoons with last meeting held on a Friday night...see times and dates below)
  • Keep a daily log/journal of specific mindfulness practices related to "Living Yoga" (log book and instructions to be provided).
  • Set the intention to be aware of and possibly shift behaviors and thought patterns to line up with yogi values such as "non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, integrity within relationships, etc., all of which are a part of weekly themes and mindfulness practice.

Yes, it's a big commitment.

Many things of value in life require that you give fully of yourself and make sacrifices. This doesn't mean your ultimate goal will be to attend class at the yoga studio every day for the rest of your life (Though maybe it is!). YOU will choose your own ultimate goal, but the asana commitment for the challenge IS 30 days of yoga at Asha within 35 days. After completing the challenge, the quantity of time dedicated to the physical practice each day may vary.

Why 5 Weeks?

1. Because many studies (and my own experiences) have shown that it takes 28-35 days to make or break a habit. During these 5 weeks, our goal is to make several new habits that will lead us to discover our strongest, healthiest, happiest selves.

2. Because there are 5 "Yamas" in the yogic system (guidelines for how we interact with the outer world; social disciplines to guide us in our relationships with others and ourselves). So, each week we'll focus specifically on one of these Yamas.

Price:

$99 / for members*  $225 /for non-members includes:

  • Philosophy of Yoga Workshop
  • Asha Yoga's "Living Yoga" Daily Guidelines and checklist Journal
  • 35 days of unlimited yoga classes
  • 6-90 minute (1 time per week) group meetings with 1 teacher and all participants (Includes meditation lesson, meditation practice, "Living Yoga" theme and group discussion).
  • First meeting: Saturday, January 18th from 3pm-6pm (includes asana class, workshop and first meeting). Regular meeting time: Sundays 3:00-4:15pm (January 23, 30, February 6, 13). Final meeting: Friday, February 18th 7:30pm-9:00pm.

Teachers

The program leader will be determined by December 2010. All Asha Yoga teachers will assist in supporting your process by addressing the "Living Yoga" themes in each of their regularly scheduled classes as well as by ending each practice with a 5 minute meditation. And, as always, we will all be available to answer questions and offer support before and after each class.
